Our PhyterBerry products are natural supplements, designed to help boost and protect your metabolism, so you feel better and live longer.
Life.Powered by Science & Nature.
Our PhyterBerry vision is to improve the health and lives of people by giving them access to natural, scientifically based, aronia polyphenol products that are effective, affordable and enjoyable. We will do this in a sustainable way that improves the environment and the livelihoods of farmers in Ireland and the UK, supporting them to diversify into growing aronia berries, by providing them with technical advice and a route to market for the aronia berries they produce.
PhyterBerry has at its’ core, the belief that good nutrition is key to health and that good nutrition is produced through positive farming practices that improve the environment and support farming communities.
Our products and our business model are based on science, guided by a philosophy founded on evidence based public health and environmental principles. We will act responsibly in our dealings with our customers and suppliers and to hold us to account for this, we will be transparent in our sharing of information.
Life. Powered by Science and Nature.
PhyterBerry is where science, nature and business come together. It was founded by two friends; Dr. Steve Collins, a medical doctor and nutritionist, and Paul Murphy, an experienced company director and businessman.
For over a decade, Steve and Paul collaborated on developing and manufacturing innovative nutritional products to treat malnutrition, made from locally grown crops throughout Africa and Asia.
After years of global impact, they turned their focus closer to home, using their expertise to create PhyterBerry – a brand dedicated to harnessing the power of science and nature to improve your everyday nutrition.
Steve is a medical doctor with a PhD in nutrition and he was awarded an MBE for his services to humanitarian work in Africa and Asia.
He is Ireland’s first Senior Ashoka Fellow Social Entrepreneur and is a renowned global expert in the treatment of starvation.
During his 30 years working to alleviate famine, he has been instrumental in challenging and changing the way malnutrition is addressed, developing an innovative community-based method for the treatment of malnutrition that is now the global gold standard which has saved millions of lives.
Steve often still consults and advises governments on effective strategies to treat malnutrition.
Paul Murphy
Paul is an experienced business leader and Company Director with a background in marketing. He spent 27 years with Unilever, in a variety of senior local and international roles, including leadership of their Irish operations.
For the last 15 years he has worked with Steve, as Chief Executive of his Irish charity, Valid Nutrition, driving innovation and change to reform the global market for foods to treat starvation. In this role, he has specialised in applying customer and consumer focused insights and business disciplines to improve nutrition and the lives of children in developing countries. Paul is a strong believer in the fundamental importance of good natural nutrition for your health and quality of life, and brings his experience in the application of rigorous business practices to deliver this at scale.
Our Scientific Farmer
Steve bought a remote hill farm in West Cork with his famly as a retreat from the intensity of his famine work. Being a nutritionist, he wanted to grow health-promoting food and so applied his scientific, evidence based approach, that had worked so well in famine relief and his nutritional expertise, to subsequently identify aronia berries.
Steve is now developing an extensive plantation of aronia bushes, experimenting with different organic farming methods, pioneering regenerative agriculture and transforming them into cutting-edge nutrition for you.
The combination of his profound nutritional knowledge and his ever-increasing expertise in growing aronia berries, puts PhyterBerry in a strong position to lead the way to good health, through good nutrition.
Our PhyterBerry Community
Paul and Steve's experience with nutrition in Africa and Asia has taught them the critical importance of crop diversity to maintain healthy soil. They have learned that farmers would only diversify if they were given a market for their new crops.
Now they have applied this understanding to farming aronia berries in Ireland. This is also supported by the on-going demands on farmers to reduce carbon impact and diversify away from mono-cropping grass for intensive sheep and cattle farming.
Steve is now encouraging Irish farmers to diversify into growing aronia berries as we continue to grow demand for aronia with PhyterBerry. If you would like to know more about farming aronia berries, please do get in touch!
